Shot at a little red schoolhouse south of Chicago. What I didn't get in this shot, however, were the millions of cicadas swarming the area. My son started off wary, but quickly succumbed to heebeegeebees, and was terrified and we had to leave before I could take too many more pictures.

I'm sure I'll get dinged for the fence being in the way. The reds are also much deeper in the 16bit image; all of my jpegs seem to come out very washed. This won't be a personal best for me, but it was the most expressive face of his I've captured this week.

Processing: Crop and exposure correction in Aperture, selected my son and sharpened him a bit in Photoshop.

Rob, I liked this one when voting and didn't at all mind the fence there. To me, candids are about the humanity captured and his face and body language reflect some serious uncertainty. In fact, I quite liked the railing there. His proximity to the edge adds to that uncertainty feeling, that he's not sure he wants to move beyond it's protection. Your explanation in your notes confirms this.

looks a little washed out... Love the boy & his expression. Looks like you took it on a summers day but didn't do any correction before submitting.

Good capture. The crop doesn't feel exactly balanced to me, though. It may be the rail in front of him causing that effect. I'm not sure.

too many different leading lines - I find it hard to focus on the subject

Hum, so do you think they saw what I did??? Cute, very good capture, but the fence seems a little more in focus than the boy.

The colors of this seem to be a little washed out by the sun... I would like to see a little brighter colors..

Wonder what is catching his attention, nice skin tones, & good light

Nice capture, like the look of uncertainty on the childs face which is mirrored by his body language. For me works well that the focus is on the barrier rather than the child as it adds to the feeling of slight disassociation in his expression

Nice point of view but I would have liked to have seen the focus on the boys eyes and not the railing.
