A recent trip in Auckland, I found this run-down half-demolished shell of a building, and contrasted it with the new sleek skyscrapers all around it! This was taken down a back alley that I would not go into at night. Even during the day, I was watching my bags carefully while taking the shot.
PP is levels, crop, resize and USM. I sharpened this shot more than usual to bring out even more contrast between the two, and the detail in the old building put me way over the image KB limit. This is the first time I've had to drop the JPG quality to submit an image!
I really don't know how this one will go. It was a tricky image to crop. The staircase is a strong composition point, and I wanted to keep the graffiti. I also wanted to keep a decent amount of the next building for it's contrasting colours and sweeping lines. After lots of mucking around with the levels and sharping, I finally have a result I'm happy with, but time will tell how it goes in the voting!
POST-CHALLENGE: Wow!!! My PB score. I don't think this image deserves it's score, but thanks for the votes. :) |

Really nice subjects and concept but the composition needs some work. |

I like the POW of the colours. Nice graphic sense. Good line and perspective. 7 |

Nice photo - I like the composition, however the glass building seems like it is a bit off-focus or maybe displaying compression/scaling jaggies instead of having those nice sharp and crisp lines... |

too boosted to me...levels wise. Very hard to look at. I understand the concept but somehow the editing is really harsh (or just the natural lighting) 5 |

good challenge subject. there's a problem though with the line edges, maybe a resizing problem. |
