Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hello brownt...
I particularly enjoy water motion photos. A good photograph of this subject creates a sense of motion and sound, and in your case, cold :) The long shutter speed creates a nice silky effect on the moving water, which appeals to me. Your photo captures this effect fairly well, but could possibly use a slightly longer shutter speed to enhance the effect. Looking at your camera settings, it looks like you may have chosen the best setting for the conditions without overexposing, which is good. To get a longer shutter speed without overexposing would have required a neutral density filter.
Your composition on this photo may have some opportunities for improvement in visual impact. Your point of interest in this photo is horizontal in the center of the frame. As my eye moves from bottom to top, following the motion of the water to its source, the main point of interest in mid frame and it becomes less intriguing to me as I move up. Cropping off the top third of this photo seems to remove the uninteresting area and create a stronger compositon for me.
I would also consider a recomposition where your 'dam' traverses the frame diagonally, but not starting and ending in the corners. The diagonal would upset the balance nicely and create another interesting composition. I think this subject is worthy of filling the frame.
Nice work :)

The action seems too centrally placed in the frame, maybe pan the camera up slightly to cut out some of the bottom of the frame and include the horizon at the top? |

Beatiful image. It´s one of the best pictures of this week. I love your composition, too and it´s well-executed. 10 |

The detail on the bottom of the pic realy is nice, where the water is running the fastest. Give a neat feeling of being sucked-in. 8. |

I like the low viewpoint and the inclusion of those rocks just below the surface makes the foreground really intriguing. Given the bland white colour of the sky I'd consider cropping more tightly at the top to exclude it but I may be in a minority as many can't appreciate landscapes without sky in them. |

I don't personally care for the thick blocky black border with this shot, makes it feel to closed in. 7 |

Good feeling of movement of the water. Since this is the subject of the picture, I would have cropped out more of the top landscape to just above where the stream goes out of sight. |
