It might not be obvious from the photo, but this poor fig tree was blown over in the recent Newcastle storms.

Did a reasonable amount of post-processing, there was some purple fringing of the branches against the sky.

Steps:
Levels, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, Shadows/Highlights
Duplicate Layer with Gaussian Blur, Color blending mode to get rid of the purple fringing.
Noise Ninja and some USM
Added border and Save for Web.

Very cool...it took me a second to realize it was the root of a tree. I think the image would have been even stronger without the border.

This seems more underside than backside. I actually like the busy-ness in this shot.
