this is my nephew, at Camp Albert's Pike in Arkansas.

photomatrix pro for tonemapping effect
put this on top layer of the original, used dissolve blend mode.
cloned out some hot pixels
ran through imagenomic noiseware professional twice
blurred his skin and clothes with the blur tool to remove some hot pixel noise.
black and white conversion (using dft 55mm b&w conversion filter)
added border via canvas resize
resized image
smart sharpen
save for web
done

Even if this wasn't technically perfect it would be a great shot. Your b/w conversion is very nice. I love the tonal range you captured.

Good exposure to be able to see the details both up close and in the distance. Also, I think bw works well here
