 Yesterday was my birthday, so I left work early and took my family for a 3-hour drive to the Bonneville Salt Flats. We have lived in northern Utah for 6 years now, and have never been over there. It was quite an experience. I never knew there was that much salt. My kids had a blast playing and running around, and I took the opportunity to make an image for this challenge.

With basic editing rules, all I did was remove some dust, apply neat image, tweak the curves, resize and sharpen.

And a nice long shadow. This is a great example of neg space imo. The size difference is what makes this shot work so well.

Great expanse of land and superb light.

I'm not being deliberately annoying here, but I just don't know what I'm supposed to feel about this photo. It's not emotive for me, so I'm left being quite conscious of your presence in the scene. I don't know what it needs but perhaps the girl should be naked or in tattered clothes, perhaps with a more muted or even cross-processed tonal treatment. The current vibrance belies your title and the colour denotes more of a fashion shoot to me than a poignant, lonely one.

There appears to be something of a weird blotchy artefact across the sky - but a cool landscape and great composition all the same.

Negative space does not exist in emptiness. Positive shapes and borders create negative space.
