This is a daisy in my garden. I changed it to B & W, then added a spot of color in the center, and softened the edges of the color. I am going practice with post processing, which I have very little experience in at this point. I appreciate any suggestion your might have.

Try selecting just the flower in layers to add the color back on just that flower. The way you did it you have bleed over onto the other flower making it look like you added the color back. IMHO the secret to pp is to either make it look like its supposed to be that way or go so overboard it can't be mistaken for a mistake (like some of the textures and pattern stuff). Have you tried the tutorial section? there's a lot of good stuff in there. And then just play with it and keep trying different things.

Nice soft pic.
I've been playing around with the cloning tool on Paint.net (free) and it's been helpful in removing the small imperfections on the petals of flowers or the surface of water. Hope that helps.
