Today we went to Six Flags. It was your typical day at an amusement park. High prices, sensory overload with color, sounds, etc. But I choose this picture for a reason - I have others that are better.

My 3yr old daughter has a mind of her own. She'll run off anywhere at anytime. While we were waiting for a ride, she squeezed through a fence and started to run. A pit from the ride was only about 20 ft away and was at least 12 ft deep. In a "one chance" attempt, she was snatched by the hair over the fence and stopped from potential disaster. A report was filed, but I think she took a few years off my life today.

This is certainly a story teller. I will have a 2 year old that will be turning 3 year next weekend and I now count myself lucky she's not an spur of the moment escape artist. Aside from the story it's still great shot. I like that you caught the roller coaster cars at the apex of the drop. The composition is strong with 3 different messages/stories in each of the 3 thirds of the photo. The sharpness from front to back and the beautiful sky are also attractive elements of this shot.

Keep two eyes on that little beauty at all times....it'll be good practice for when she's a teenager :)

Whew. Well, the same independence that is turning your hair gray today will serve her well as an adult. Her body language is really perfect, knowing the story. And there she is, middle of the road, dwarfed by a roller coaster, a guy on a bike, a tall statue with an ax... great shot.

I'm sure this scared you half to death on the day, but it's a great story and a great photo.

Oh my word...great - if heart attack inducing moment.

I do like the sensory overload of colours but also the way that your daughter seems so small and lost in the wide scope of the park

I am very glad that all worked out ok, but am so sorry to say how funny your story is. And it is a lovely picture with her so small and the rides so big and in the BG.

I was going to say what a beautiful day for an amusement park until I read your comments. Just keep repeating to yourself "she will out grow this, its just a phase".

I can so relate. I have a two year old just like that and that is why I've vowed never to take my kids to Niagra Falls or the Grand Canyon until they are past the "break free and run" stage. We have a harness that we have used on our kids. I've gotten the typical "how cruel" comments, but it works for us and the kids actually like it. :)

I feel for you. My two boys were 15 months apart, and I had to travel a lot with them. At places like airports, I seriously considered getting those "leashes". We still call the youngest one "Greased Lightening" because he could disappear so quickly.

My first impulse on seeing this picture was Hey that looks fun... Wait for me, but then I read your comments. Close call!

You chose this picture for a reason. Sounds like a dichotomy, if you ask me!

oh, man, that is every parents' nightmare, you know? How scary.

Good shot, too, with the girl alone against the crazy backdrop of that ride.
