 The third day of my five-day cycle is Critters.
I took this about 5pm, when the sky was dark with thunderclouds. I cloned out some power lines if you're wondering why the clouds look a bit funky. Shot with flash, obviously.
My ambition this summer is to get a really good shot of a dragonfly in flight.

This type is particularly easy to photograph - I mean, get real macro. They'll even perch on your finger. There were also black-winged damselflies with either metallic green or black bodies, but they're extremely hard to get close to (and my long lenses aren't particularly good).

Considering how many dragonfly photos are on DPC, I don't recall seeing one with such motion before. It's very cool -- almost like a mechanical thing taking off.

Very good capture. Love the colors - the storm sky sets off the yellow of the bug's body well.

great movement .. i wish i could get insects to perch on my finger ... like a bee for instance .. bees are particularly difficult to photograph .. i put one in a glass the other day, so i could get close enough to photograph him, but he just wouldnt stay still ... i love how your dragonfly's face and body are very focused .. well, it may not actually be his face ..
