| Love the use of rich dark tones, drawing viewer into middle distance with white farm building, and then along the line to the horses (yay). |

For your birthday, a story about this picture (blame skewsme!).
One day, while carousing with his friends, one of the old Norse gods (don't remember the name, but he was very strong) dropped his kortem blophik (bottle 'o bleach) on Elizabeth, New Jersey. Instantly, all the color drained from that part of the world. There was a great hue and cry from the people, who couldn't decide whether bleach smelled better than Elizabeth. While trying to mop it up, the god accidentally erased all of the urban blight, leaving behind an idyllic, if not colorful, scene of farm life. The people decided that wasn't such a bad tradeoff.

I think your mid-tones should be lighter, would remove the dark look to your image.
Or, my monitor needs calibration... |

| Nice pastoral scene. I think it would be even better if the sky were either more interesting or cropped out. My eye keeps getting drawn to the large white area. Also, the shadows are a bit blocked up with loss of detail. I love the composition. It's very calming. |

| overall contrast is too high, sky is completely blown while the trees in the center are too dark. |
