Driving home from work yesterday I was forced to take an unexpected detour due to road construction. Taking time to look at my rural surroundings I noticed a about 4 or 5 things that I need to take the time to shoot.

I went back today to try and capture one of these finds. I drove to the detour point but none of the situations that made the prospective shots special were in play (animals are key to a few and they were nowhere to be found). Keeping my eyes peeled I happened to notice this old historic church tucked away in a spot off of the main road.

I don't know if the church is still in use. The black thing between the two doors is not a mailbox as my wife thought but a plaque designating this as a historical site. The church was built in 1867 making it 140 years old this year.

It's amazing how much we miss when we're not looking at our surroundings closely.

By today's standards that looks like a really small church. It's really interesting to see historic sites like this.

What part of TN? This looks a lot like some of the old churches here in Western NC.

I know how you feel, since I sarted taking pictures I have noticed so many things on daily commutes that I never took the time to notice. This is a great capture, B&W was a nice choice.

I really appreciate the b/w processing here and I like how the tree on the left frames the front of the pic, and the trees in the BG really nestle it all together.

Nice B&W treatment on the church. I'm guessing that there are a lot more pictures you can do on this church.

Awesome shot and story! Yes, and it's true how we don't look at our surroundings or miss things that are close by. Hope to see more of your discoveries!
