So... I went out on my lunch hour, ready to take some killer candids, and that nasty flashing light in the viewfinder told me that I didn't have a memory card in the camera. Of course, this is the day I didn't bring any extra cards with me, so I had to shoot something when I got home. Rather than inflict my toes or the inside of my refrigerator on you, this is some stuff that is on top of my dresser.

The dolls are some that I found at a flea market -- nothing especially special about them, but I think they have quite a bit of character in their faces. The Virgin of Guadalupe is a prayer card from the funeral of the father of a very close friend. The baby is my grandson at about two months old, and the cross is Coptic and part of a necklace that I haven't put back in its box. The picture is cropped so as not to show all the dust on the surface of the dresser -- makes my sensor look clean as a whistle.

This is really great, I love the way everything melds together to make a seemless pic. Who'd have known it was a mantle piece...

I like the way it looks 3-D. The background and foreground subjects work well together. You have hit a homerun with this one :)

Ok, I am not in this 50 day challenge except as a casual passerby, but I think from what I read about what this challenge is supposed to be about I think this fits perfectly as part of a photo diary, a simple glimpse into the details of one's everyday life. Very cool image, I am glad you forgot your card or this gem may not have risen. The composition is great, it makes all the parts play off of eachother so well, the eye doesn't rest on any one place. very cool indeed.

This is just so cool looking. Three different subjects, all adding up to a greater whole.

krafty1 said it all. The personal elements this collection reflects are, well, personal and therefore touching in the knowledge that someone has revealed a part of themselves. I guess we all do that with each photo we put up as well, but not always so nicely arranged.

Fascinating objects - maybe not to you - but the way they are grouped in the photo and the bw treatment makes this very intriguing, mysterious and interesting. Great job.

interesting and provocative. It definitely stirs up alot of thoughts, seeing all of those icons in one image.

fantastic shot, really atmospheric. Almost... kind of dreamlike, somehow.

Simply Fantastic. The items, even without the description in your comments tell a story. It is obvious that these items do not belong to a young person. The religious elements, the pic of the presumed family member or loved one, the Coptic cross and the slightly frivolous serene looking Asian figurines are all elements that seem like they could tell their own stories apart from one another but together they give a collective glimpse into the of the life of their owner and what is important to that person. The desaturation and soft focus enhance the feeling the photo conveys. Great job!

I've always found what people put on their dressers very interesting, it always (as this does) seem to be personal things. I like the blurry almost hazy feel to it.
