I explored a new place today about 3 miles from home, the 'Socorro Nature Area'. It's a 120-acre chunk of BLM (bureau of land management) land in the Rio Grande Bosque (the wooded area surrounding the big river that runs north/south through New Mexico) that has been somewhat developed with trails to create an environmental education area. It was a nice change of pace that offered some interesting photo ops, and I will visit often in the future!

I got loads of shots at the nature area using my new macro lens, and yet this old car parked at a house on the dirt road leading to the area is what I finally settled on.

Although I know one of the loose 'rules' of this challenge is minimal processing, I couldn't resist with this specimen. To me this car is reminiscent of a creature with a big under bite, thus the name. Snaggletooth has been cropped, had barbed wire cloned out, treated with a couple of Lucis Arts filters, and selectively saturated and desaturated. Hey, we in the rural areas find beauty where we can!

P.S. I got the opportunity to start learning how to take macro bug shots at the nature area. Actually, the Spike shot is a lot like the Snaggletooth shot in an odd way

Great use of "personification" -- it is like some big rusting humanoid insect. Neat photo. I, too, want to learn more about these filters.

I like the processing, personally. One thing this challenge is doing is motivating me to get out and hike more in places I've never been.

Nothing wrong with a little editing now and then. Most of my 50 would fall in advanced anyway :) I love the processing on this one.

Well, I'm glad you utilized the processing like you did, I think it's wonderful.

I love the spike shot. The truck is cool and it would appeal to me more if the chrome effect did not alter the wood and paint. But... I really like the bug.

gotta love the lucisart plug .. i'm a total convert .. i try it on just about every photograph i start processing .. of course it doesnt always fit a particular image .. i'll often just use it selectively and give say the scene a bit'v lucisart and the dog, for instance, not ..
love this image of yours ... the lucisart works so well with mechanical things .. works well for heaps of other 'things' too !! ..
