 Today was a boring day for photography. After my run today at the beach, I went back to my car, got a bottle of water, and went back to the beach and sat and reflected. For the first time in ages I left the camera in the car.

Later that day we went to a state park for a walk and I had camera. The bugs attacked us so we had to walk along the road and I got a few flower shots.

Processing to get this effect included creating a separate layer in multiply mode and applying gaussian blur. I sharpened the background layer. This technique works better for more exciting subjects, but thought I'd try it here.

In your face, centered, fill the frame beautiful. The subtle variations in the background are fantastic. There is enough color contrast to really set off the petals of the flower. I love it.

Beautiful colors in this -- I especially like the subtle changes in the background color. Good composition for the square crop. The edges of the flower seem a bit jaggy -- is that from sharpening the background? I wonder if that would show in a print.

What pretty, vibrant art. And an interesting story about your journey to come upon this photo. I love it. No majestic beach scenes, only reflection and an exercise outlet. No pristine park scenes, but after it all, this bright, sunny beautiful flower.

And composed beautifully!!!!

I really like the background here. It is dark enough to really accentuate the flower, yet it still has some "texture" (not true texture, but more of a color texture) to give it interest.

This is a fine example of a centred image. Great jumping-out-at-you colour with the dark spot in the middle.

thank you for the tips re: processing. I have such limited experience with different layer blend modes. I'll have to branch out and experiment, because this is lovely.

Super processing. The flower has almost ceased to be a flower and has morphed into a futuristic sunburst.

wow .. this is an incredible image .. love the sharp contrasts and the square crop works perfectly .. love how the middle of the flower blends so well with the background so that the flower looks like it is made up of petals only ... after reading your comment i'm thinking that you've created that with your processing .. excellent .. :)
