Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - This is a really good shot of this dog, in terms of the composition. You've captured the essence of the tired dog. My dog does the same thing. I think the crop is just a little tight on this one. Also, the background in the top left corner is a bit too close tonally to the dogs fur. That's not that big of a deal, but it would help some. The eyes are a little dead without any kinds of catchlights. I don't think this is a real big problem, but some folks would rake you over the coals for that one (i.e. my local camera club). Even if they aren't huge problems, it doesn't hurt to try to make you at least aware of them. Every little bit helps.
Technical - This is where this image didn't fare so well. The focus is too soft. I don't know where your aperture was when you shot this. It doesn't appear the the focal plane was anywhere in the frame nor that your DOF was too shallow. Its all pretty soft. I'm curious to know if you took this in macro mode or not. Looking at this, it leads me to believe that you didn't and probably should have. If you did... then blame the autofocus like any other photographer would . The exposure might have been just a little too long too. That might be some of the reason for the blur. Making this picture sharp is critical to its success. The G2 is an extremely capable camera. It might take just a little more patience (by yourself and the dog) to get this shot spot on perfect.
Overall - You were really on the right track with this one. You had the good scene, it just didn't work out very well when you took the photo. I think this photo could've gotten 5.8-6.1 if the photo quality was clean and crisp. Its a very cute pic that just wasn't executed as well as it could've been. I think its worth trying to redo. Take care and good luck - Bob |

This is adorable. The lighting is terrific, you captured the color wonderfully, the extreme close up definitely shows point of view :) 9 |

It's a nice shot, and it's a somewhat less than usual POV, but it isn't compelling to me. A shot requiring more effort and imagination might have fared better. 3 |

Beautiful dog. Interesting expression. Soft focus. Good exposure, but what about this point of view? I saw it in many dog shots. |

Unique pov, would like one/both the eyes to be more a point of interest. |

Excessive compression especially in the darker areas (under nose and between cheek and left paw). Too bad as this was a nice shot. |
