As per you thread...
There's a lot going on here & much to look at particularly with the contrast of colours here *horse, straps, etc...).
There isnt one thing that my eye rests on as the focal point when looking at this pic. I dont think the blur tool helped.

I'm responding to your post. I gave this a 6 because I liked the dream-like quality of the photo. The title is strange and doesn't really make sense right off the bat. And there is also a typo. So I'm thinking that people might have been confused. The OOF comments are ridiculous because you clearly meant to have a soft look for this photo. |

Rather than duplicate my comments here, take a look in your post. |

hmmmm....I gave the image a 5, which is close to the average for the image.
As far as focus goes, when I was voting on this image, I didn't stop to analyze it, but I remember thinking the blur looked a little strange. Not really out of focus, but not quite right, either. My experience has been in DPC, out of focus images, even if it's intentional, will get hammered.
I think the other issue is what Matthew mentioned, the lighting. The combination of lighting and blur makes the horse look pretty flat and lifeless against the bright background. It probably doesn't help that the horse is just standing there, not doing anything. Maybe a better "dream" picture would have been a dreamy shot of a girl on a horse, galloping across a field.
I'm not intending to be harsh, because it isn't that bad of a shot...but these are the things that probably hurt the score.

It is a pretty horse and you have captured a dream of many a young girls. However, as others have stated, the image really has some technical issues that resulted in the sub 5 score.
First, the lighting is not flattering and works against you - the background is too bright and takes us away from the horse. Second, the extraneous pole, harness, and other lines distract from the beauty of the horse. Third, the color cast seems off.
I understand that you were trying to use blur to give a feeling of dreaminess - but with the other technical issues, this blur just seemed like OOF.
Simplifying the image is what is needed for photos on this site to do well - taking a shot of the horse head without the harness and making sure the background does not distract would have scored much better.

The missing apostrophe?
The image is certainly pleasant to look at, but lacks a "wow" factor that is necessary (rightly or wrongly) to grab the higher scores here.
In any photo, one key issue is lighting - good lighting really makes or breaks a photo. Your photo doesn't really use lighting to any careful effect.
You will have been marked down by some for your soft focus - it is another facet of voting on this site. |

I am sure you are getting some OOF comments on this, but I think the soft focus is what makes this shot work for this particular challenge. If is was razor sharp it wouldn't have that dreamy feel about it. 6 |

good exposure against the bright background. A little soft, but that's what you intended for a dream topic |
