 I borrowed a Dec 2006 Vanity Fair magazine from the library because it had a good lot of portraits in it to study. It's the first time I've read it, so I guess the "In Character" is a regular feature.
So, I decided to do my own version using the words that Howard Schatz used for Hugh Laurie (whom I saw live in Canberra when he was touring with the Cambridge Footlights Review, back in 1980ish). I posed almost like he did.
I suppose I should have rubbed out the background... I shot only 6 shots.

Great idea well executed. I've never had the courage to try a proper self-portrait. Maybe something like this would help, if only my tripod hadn't gone and broken!

that's soooooo funny, you should be an actor!! .. your expressions are priceless ... it looks like you're just about to start crying in the first one where you find out your 15 year old daughter is pregnant AT DINNER !! .. i'm expecting bald spots where you've pulled your hair out in distress in the second one .. and you pull off the pompous perfectly in the third ... that could cause you problems if it came naturally !!! lol lol .. :)

OK, I had to Google "vanity fair in character" to see what you were talking about here (although I liked your image before I knew that it was a spoof of anything). What a clever idea. If I happened to steal it at some point, would you hunt me down and shoot me or anything?

I like the middle one best. A fashion designer in that situation would look precisely like that.
