My husband is a telecommunications technician for the National Park Service. Part of his job is maintaining and repairing radio signal repeaters; sometimes this requires being flown out via helicopter to remote mountaintops in the Sierras. Today was one of those times, and we thought it would be fun for the kids and myself to get up early and drive an hour and a half to the Crane Flat helipad to watch him take off. We had a great time.

This is a technically imperfect wide-angle shot showing the helicopter he would be riding in (the nearer one) and a bit of the view at the helipad.

And here's my husband without the helmet. (He is smiling. :)

You have a terrific sense of humor!

Great photo, especially with the personal connection. And thanks for the "bonus" photos, too.

Awesome shot, great crop. You've caught the man in action. This will be a great photo for the kids to continue to look at over the years. It sounds like he has an incredibly interesting job. I bet the kids thought it was so cool to see dad take off in the helicopter!

Yes, you can actually see cheek movement in the helmet-on shot! (It's just a running joke my husband and I have. He has this very stern-looking face --although he's actually quite a goofball if you know him well-- and the beard doesn't help; people are always asking why he doesn't smile in pictures, and he answers with this deadpan expression, "I AM smiling." Because really he is. He just smiles... small. :)
