I decided to give everyone a break from the family pictures today. Today's been kind of quiet -- nothing out of the ordinary except that my husband and son are gone doing Boy Scout-related stuff, so it's just my daughter and me. We went for a walk, and as usual we passed my Favorite House. It's a 100-year-old Victorian, and it's really not my favorite house anymore, but when I was a little girl it was the fanciest house I had ever seen and I coveted it so, so badly.

Anyway. The Favorite House has a tower with a weathervane on top, which I must confess to have photographed at least two or three times before. Today's shot showcases the ancientness of it as well as the blue, blue, blue summer sky.

Many things to like about this photo. The contrast of the black and white, the blue blue sky, the details of the paint and rust on the base of the weathervane and the composition are all wonderful elements. Very nice capture.

I love the detail of rust and peeling paint you've captured, and the lighting is great, gives lots of dimension to the different portions! Perfect sky color too, an all-around great shot!

What a great capture! Ths sky is amazgion & does really make the antique-ness of this stand out. The white & blue work really well & the white border really gives it a kick. Thanks for sharing!

I like all the textures and colors of the spire (or whatever that things called).

Perfect blue sky, and I love the weathervane. Nice use of rule of thirds in the composition.

I love Victorian homes - usually full of so much character. I hope you will be taking pics of what the home looks like??? The weather vain looks like quite the relic - and I love the contrast with the blue sky. Pretty!

Composition and blue sky in background really work well. On those occasions when I'm in a neighborhood at a B&B (usually old Victorian it seems) I like taking a walk to looks at the houses.
