 The thunderstorms that have been all around us for the past couple of days finally started to move in. Since there were great clouds all around, I thought I'd take some pictures on my way to the store. This shot was taken about five miles from home on a little side road that runs back by all the farmland. I got some nice shots at my other location as well, a little canyon called "The Box" that is a popular rock climbing area.

I was hoping to catch some lightning shots in the evening, but that didn't come until about midnight; the thunder was so loud it woke me from a deep sleep! I was too groggy to get up and take pictures which is too bad, because the lightning was really close.

BTW, this is an HDR image composed of three exposures. I adjusted levels and color a bit in Photoshop, and did a tiny bit of burning on a couple of the dark clouds, but the mamatus at the top really looked like that.

This is gorgeous - to be able to see all the clouds like this. I love the set at the top - looks almost like rolling smoke.

Great capture - it's a shame about missing the lightning. I don't think we've had one good night of lightning here all year, except during middle of night...

Cool cloud formations...Did you do any dodging and burning here or was the cloud as ominous as it looked. Lovely diagonal leading line created by the cloud which in itself is quite soft (so does not seem to in your face) but is strong enough to draw the viewer in

this is THE most excellent photograph .. those clouds and the sky are absolutely amazing .. such movement ... such drama .. i love how you've composed this as well, with only a small amount of land at the bottom .. the colours are just beautiful especially with that yellow glow on the clouds ... :)
