I finally got the chance to try something new I had read about a bit ago, focus stacking. There was this cute little spider on the outside of my window, and it was staying pretty still. So I thought to myself, 'Self, you can try that stacking technique to increase the depth of field on macro shots!'. So I did, and this is the result :-)

This is my first try, a stack of 8 shots each taken at slightly different focus distance on this TINY 1cm spider. This is pretty much what came out of the program (CombineZM) in its automated stacking routine; with time and effort I should get much better results. Expect to see more in the future...

Of course since this is composed of multiple images this technique is pretty useless on this site as far as challenges are concerned, but I suspect I will do well with this in the real world :-)

eeek bugs. lol

This is a great closeup and now thanks to you I have learned about some new technique. The details are amazing (and scary since I don't really like bugs lol).

Ahh! That's a bit close for me but at least he was on the other side of the glass.

Wow stunning shot and the focus stacking (which I have never heard of) works really well. the eyes and head are simply stupendous

Proof positive why the actual challenges are sometimes not the best place to show images. No doubt some people would have marked it down but I think this is brilliant

I think it's time to get that program - I never heard of it before this. I will definitely be trying this technique. Thanks for making the spider extra creepy - I'm not scared of them but this guy look vicious.

This looks awesome, even in the thumbnail. Great stuff.
I've got the CombineZM program, but have only used it a couple of times ( a fairly good result with a stationary moth), and I've certainly been planning to use it in this 50 Day project.

It looks great. Perhaps usable in an expert challenge?

OK crap. If that thing was on my window, I'd move. Of course, I understand that this is a bit larger than life. . .Great details.
