Walking home last night I saw this business down a dark side street. To get the photo in low light I braced my camera against a street sign and used the timer function to help keep it steady.

There are a lot of these "storefront psychics" in New York.

Besides the square crop, I selectively lightened the signs (sloppily, I see now) and added color to the neon. I saved it a second time so there may have been a small degradation in quality.

You've done a good job capturing the mood of the place. I like that part of the "PSYCHIC" sign is in shadow.

I never thought of using the timer that way. I'll have to try that some time.

I really like the dark feel to it, it makes it seem very mysterious, great job on the processing!

This is awesome for a night shot and no tripod. I love all the lighting you captured. Looks like this psychic is doing some pretty good business lol.

There's a lot to see in the dark! I don't think there's anything sloppy about the processing. The psychic signs are great, but that bar/restaurant to the side really gets to me. Come on in and have a bite to eat after your reading.

I never would've thought twice about the 'sloppy' edit. Looks alright to me for such conditions.

very nicely done - I love the night shot, so much better than a day photo.

Sooooo, what did they tell you?

The lighting on this is great. i do not think you butchered it in post processing at all. I need to try more night shots.

Only $5 for a special redaing, that's cheap, a friend of mine was charged £50 for the same service in London (I told him, I think she must have seen you coming...groan)

I love the low key on this shot and despite the fact you were slightly scathing of your PP I have to say i would be thrilled if I took an image like this. The lighting works very well and given there is no obvious rule of third application it draws you into the shot beautifully

Of course, she knew your were going to take this shot, right? Good job with the lighting.
