 Macro view of the fruiting head of Western Salsify (Tragopogon dubius).

The title is a play on words...an achene (pronounced a keen')is a dry one-seeded fruit that doesn't open at maturity. Sunflower seeds, strawberry seeds, and dandelion seeds are also achenes.
