Challenge: Painting with Light (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Sony DSC-F717
Location: dining room table
Date: Jan 22, 2004
Aperture: F3.2
ISO: 100
Shutter: 15 seconds
Date Uploaded: Jan 22, 2004

Painted using a halogen pen light and a red laser pen light on a white (silk?) rose in a dark room. Standard processing with a little burn on the black background. Decided against softening it to make it look more like a real rose, probably should have, but I think it looks like a canvas painting. Colors are a little blotchy, but I really liked the effect. Learned a new technique. Gotta love it and dpc for pushing me to try new things!

It's unanimous! Nobody likes to see detail on an artificial rose, except me.
Thanks for the critiques. I do appreciate the feedback.

Great lighting, nice texture (but shows it's silk?) Border sets off photo well.

Would have been nicer with a real rose

I love the color and light, but would've liked it alot better if it was a real rose.

A bit too much sharpness. IMO it would have looked better more softly done and not seeing the silk texture of the petals.

Nice colors...but Light on Fake would have been a more appropriate title.

Composition, color and exposure are all wonderful, but the texture of the artificial flower is distracting and it seems a bit out of focus toward the center of the rose. Again, the composition is very good. A real rose would have made this perfect.

If only this were a real rose. As a matter of personal preference, I don't care for the textures that expose it as being a silk flower, however the colors, lighting and placement are fantastic. I'm not voting on this challenge so don't worry about your score being affected but this comment, but you might consider a different kind of border. The black seems a little harsh on the right side of the photo. Just my opinion.
