Excerpt from the Press Enterprise story 8/4/7: a crowd on Saturday says goodbye to John Pappas' DC-3 twin-engine aircraft at the Corona Municipal Airport. The aircraft had dropped troops on France during World War II.
Pappas, his wife, Betty, of Mission Viejo, and a crew of three, including San Bernardino's assistant city attorney, Doug Calkins, boarded the plane to start the nearly 6,000-mile journey to Sao Carlos, Brazil, where it will be housed in a museum.
The Pappas' have sold the plane, which was based in Corona for 10 years, to Boeing Aircraft. The plane is due to make 15 stops on its final journey.
