Challenge: Urban Landscapes II (Basic Editing)
Collection: Challenges 2007
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Kuwait
Date: Aug 9, 2007
Aperture: f/9.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/500
Date Uploaded: Aug 14, 2007

A "town" in the middle of the desert somewhere in Kuwait. Note that the apparent "soft" focus isn't due to either soft focus or motion (we did stop the car for this shot) but due to heat waves coming off the sand and dust/sand blowing.

I realize it's not DPC-pretty, but it's different! Gotta give it that.

These look like giant creatures marching on a small town a bit like a modern day version of Tolkein's Ents lol

It's as if they're growing here! Very impressive in combination with all the sand.

amazing place you've photographed here .. those structures look like weird aliens & they fit in so well in this alien landscape and the buildings .. very much a day of the triffids feel to me .. and yes very different .. are those birds or something on all the wires ??.. and i mean ALL the wires .. probably not .. they're probably transformers or something electrical .. :)

I think you nailed the perfect rural and urban landscape photograph Deb! Ewww, powerpoles...you defintely made something that is usually thought of as ugly and intrusive very interesting in this photograph.

This should have scored at least a six. It is original. Who says urban has to be about sky scrapers. Urban is vastly different across the globe. This is simplly a superb photo.

a frightening backyard for sure, a wonderfully interesting shot in that it exposes a complicated problem with urban development....

Awesome reality Deb, this really does portray Urban landscape, I am surprised it did not finish higher. The towers are well photographed and dwarf the town by thier hight..well done.

You know, I did think about cropping the right side to get rid of the partial towers... but it was already uploaded to the site, and to change it required working on the laptop, transferring to thumbdrive, putting on the work desktop, then hoping for a good connectivity day. Besides, I decided I liked it a bit unbalanced. :-)

The march of the electrical towers. Love the idea. I thought there were specs of black all over the photo then I noticed that they belong there.

There is something almost surreal about this - the march of the pylons! Well spotted.

Love it. The giants (with the huge spiderweb) standing in the background, the town along a single road, and especially the very subtle neutral shades.

i love the long focal length on this shot, it compresses the elements for a nice effect.
