I am SUCH a violator. This is TOTALLY not square. But I ask you, how could I have done that to this shot?
This was a feeble attempt to add to the series of pictures I am taking of this tree, one per season. (the rest of the series -- all two pictures in it -- is here). I haven't done the summer one yet, and I'm about to run out of time, but I haven't been in the vicinity of the tree during the right time of day since June (sunset, I confirmed today, is definitely NOT the right time of day). Sunday I'll try again; the tree's down the road from my parents' and I'll be there midday for my dad's birthday party.
The contortions I have to get into to take these pictures are unbelievable, especially right now. I have to kind of straddle this ditch -- which, during this season, is about three inches deep in mud. Since water is scarce in the summer, and this is just downstream of the favorite hangout of the cattle who live in this particular pasture, there is NO WAY I am putting my foot in that mud, if you get my drift. So I have one foot on one side of the ditch and I'm kind of reclining against the very steep bank on the other side, contorted all around with my head nearly upside-down, in order to get low enough to compose the shot without the tops of the bullpines that would completely break up the nice smooth horizon line if I were two inches higher. That's me, always willing to suffer for my art.
ANYWAY. Um.
Since this one isn't square, I also uploaded a picture of the rose my daughter picked for me from my mom's rosebush:

Beautiful shot! I really like the siloette effect, why do these cool trees always seem to be in the oddest spots!? |

Hey... can't be saying "TOTALLY" not square.. it's not circular :)
I just love this tree, and how time has stressed his back.

Very nice. It's "square enough" for me. :-)
Your explanation of your contortions made me smile. None of it is apparent in the photo, which is a good thing! |

Great job on the B&W, the silhouetted tree against the light gray looks fantastic. I don't blame you for not stepping in the "mud", but it paid off to stretch and strain to get the shot. |

This can so go on the wall, Rachel. The lighting is wonderful and so is the composition. Beautiful photo. |
