By chance I saw this little dragonfly sitting on a blackberry vine leaf, perfectly backlit by the sun, a silhouette (I know) of it's body showing through the leaf, but it's head and green eyes clearly visible (not a silhouette) peaking over the edge of the leaf. What I really like how everything in the shot is green, and the almost black bokeh, while not planned, turned out great.

It was a difficult shot to get, it was windy and the leaf was moving all over the place. I'm amazed it hung on long enough for me to get the shot. Used shutter priority and set the shutter speed as fast as I could without bottoming out the aperture (1/640). I also used manual focus. Autofocus was out of wack by the leaf that kept moving in-and-out of the focus field. I was able to track it a bit better with manual focus. I snapped 8 shots...I think I was pretty lucky to get one that turned out this well. ;-)

This is my first time using Paint.net, also the first time I have adjusted Curves (understanding what it is and how it works after a comment on my last DPC entry and looking at few online curves tutorials...I'm learning!). Curves allowed me to get contrast and color that I never could with the simple brightness/contrast adjustments I used in the past.

Post Production withPaint.net:
- Import Raw
- Crop
- Resize
- Adjust Curves
- Sharpen (minimal)
- Add Boarder
- Export JPEG

Great backlighting. Very comical to see the insects head poping over the side.

Sweet little image but a little too much leaf which takes away from the main subject.
