 This is my first challenge attempt (I'm admittedly a complete beginner). I cropped, used unsharpen mask and adjusted red levels in photo shop.

The texture of both the floor and the leaf are good but the leaf doesnt really spring out from the shot. The placement is good, but maybe getting a little bit closer may have brought out more of the textures of the leaf. A slight brightness/levels adjustment may have helped a little, and the leaf looks a little soft too.

Very different (no tools!) Looks almost like marble with this lighting. It's well done, but doesn't do much to hold my interest. I do like the addition of the leaf.

i would have liked this shot had the focus been on and the leaf at a stronger position. perhaps near one of the corners. currently it isn't doing anything to help the image.

I see the simplicity you were going for in your idea. Not bad, but will need more focus (sharpen) to make this stand out. Good luck in the challenge.
