This is a photo of my 5 months old daughter.
And this is probably the most valuable photo I have taken in last few years. When we take photos of our children, usually we shoot them when they are happy, laughing and enjoying. I also take such pictures.
But.
For every parent the most difficult thing is to see their child crying. This is one of such moments. I know I would cherish this moment as the time passes. It would be great to look back after say 10, 20 years and think about the wonderful time (the time that will never come back).
The value of this photo will only augment with time.

About the shoot:
It was difficult thing to shoot. The reason is as I said before, for parents its difficult thing to see their child cry. So if she is crying I would certainly not running to grab my camera. After I consoled and put to sleep. I went to other room brought the camera and took just one shot. Before the tear dropped her nose. All this in less than 5 seconds. (or may be less). I always shoot in manual mode, so it was very difficult thing to shoot, given the lack of light in the room.

Thank you for liking it. Though it has scored pretty well, its your comment that I value.

I actually think this time, I prefer the color version over the black and white. It seems somehow to tell a little more of the story. The lighting and shadows are exquisite.

You are a painter. . ..I can see this as a huge painting. How beautifully it would enhance a room!

Congratulations on a most unique and beautiful capture.

You can see I am very attached to this one.

About its being painting, yes. My wife always telling me that I keep on making portraits for people but have not done any of my daughter. I am going to start painting again, hopefully as soon as we shift into new house where I will have a dedicated room for myself. So that I could put colors around without having to worry about someone treading on them.
I remember a photo of a baby in your portfolio, that one photo is always in my mind. I can not seem to get it out of my head.

So touching, quiet and subtle...I want to reach out and dry that little tear, to sooth and care for...so lovely.

I think the lighting in this photograph is excellent for it acts as a soft spotlight that directs our attention immediately to the child's closed eye & the delicate tear that is running down the face. It immediately moves the viewer to compassion - we want to soothe away the hurt or fear that this child may have; we want to reach out and wipe away that tear. You did an excellent job of establishing an emotional connection with your viewers! Beautifully captured and beautifully presented.

the overuse of noise reduction created a distracting gradient on the arm. lots of jpeg artefacts around the eyelashes and the highlights. very good lighting and crop.
