Sitting in the Dark

Taken in a golden penda tree in the backyard, we are in the midst of some bad weather, and taking photos was not good because of frequent rain periods, between such periods noticed this lorikeet and it sat for me to shoot, used the big lens from about 60ft, because of the clouds the light was even.
Processed and cropped in raw, before into photoshop using neat image twice, then loaded into a B&W styler plug-in selecting color filter-circular mask-color-invert used the sliders to select the area I wanted and processed, some dodge & burn helped with the background and neat image again, applied contrast, and final sharpen in Usm, and set border,

I like the use of desat here, and even more after reading your description. This little lorikeet seems to be a colorful break in an otherwise gray bit of weather.

Nice detailed shot of the bird. The grey scale background seems a little dark overall.

the desaturation doesn't work for me here. The bird seems a bit soft
