I think the theme is a bit of a stretch but I really like the photo. Great texture, values and composition.

I really like this photo, the composition and grain, but I don't feel like it can stand on its own without the title.

Very (!) harsh, in every respect, so harsh some viewers may miss any affection the photographer may have had for his subject. He is left, instead, affronted with a given reality as it is represented here.

The manner is, of course, either a deliberate choice or a direct consequence of human experience.
The image is, without question, the strongest of the bunch. Even the title is emotive to a high degree.

A terrific and moving portrait; I am glad you chose B&W and some grain, both of which fit the subject very well. One of my favorites in the challenge.

Strong picture. Very good composition, a lot of emotions too... Not so related to the challenge but still one of the best picture!

Very well done. The technical aspects all work together for a great photo. The creativity makes it a very moving and emotive portrait. High marks for both. 10

I like the metaphorical approach you have taken. Very nice.

wow, this is really very good. reminds me of the work of richard avedon. Perhaps a big grainy though. How much unsharp mask did you use? -8

The only thing here that seems to fit the challenge is the title, but because of the power of this portrait I'm not going to be as harsh about it as I normally would... Very nice shot. Too bad it don't fit the challenge...

Great portrait, though somewhat forced as a fit for this challenge, as your very explicit title acknowledges. Still a great portrait, though.

It misses the challenge a bit for me, but great picture!

Excellent portrait contrasted well against the bright background. Good contrast, detail and textures. Very life-like...almost too life-like...but I guess that's the harsh realities referred to in your title, which I like very much as well. Meets the challenge well. Great effort.

Interesting tones and a very nice shot. I find the composition interesting, but I also wonder how it might hae looked with a little more of his face on the left (mainly because he's so thi looking here.)

Interesting use of grain. Something compelling about this shot, just not sure how to describe it. Really needs the title to meet the challenge.

Awesome shot!!! Tells a story without the title. Good luck! 10

Excellent portrait - graininess brings out the lines in the man's face, expression is reflective and the title captures the mood.

Very good photo. Lovely use of grain/ noise. Tonal range and textures very nicely done. It's a stretch to see how it fits the challenge, though. (Yes, I understand your title.) 7
