Trying out my new "camera"... the Panasonic SDR-H200. OK, so it's a camcorder but it has a 10x zoom compared to the Canon A80's 3x. I wanted to get a head-on view of the horses at Saratoga and the 3x wouldn't do it.

Unfortunately, I over-exposed the rail in the background and had to tone it down and B&W or sephia worked best.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my image. Overwhelmingly the commenters thought the crop was too tight. I used a tight crop for two reasons:
1) I felt a tight crop conveyed the feeling of power more. The power eminated from the horses and they are the subject, not the jockeys.
2) I wanted to remove the trucks to make the background less busy.
Thanks again.

Great capture. I'd prefer to see more room top and bottom.

Well chosen for the theme. Maybe not so much crop at the top.

the crop is a bit too low for me - good capture, though

Sepia was good choice for this shot.

would've like to have seen the tops of the jockeys' heads. I'm ambivalent about the toning. could've used more contrast I think

Their heads are slightly cropped off, but I like the photo. Looks nice in sepia.

Not to sure about the title (I might have gone for plain and simple horsepower...Fortunately marks are given for image not titles) Love the duo-tone which makes it (other than the cars in the background) feel like it could have been taken from the pages of a sports annual from the 1950's and which really complements the image. The crop seems a tad low, but I appreciate that for action shots like this you generally dont have the luxury of composing the shot as fully as normal

The sepia works well here to give a feel of horseracing in its heyday, but I'd prefer a slightly less tight crop, especially at the bottom.
