The effect is done in-camera by spinning it on a tripod. The shot is 0.5 seconds, I believe and the spin is not nearly as much as you would think (maybe a few degrees). This left the interesting clear section in the middle which lends a focal point to a picture which would otherwise not have one. I boosted the colors quite a bit as this was shot on an overcast morning.

Yes, I self-DQ'd it at 16 votes and a 4.333. I was perhaps hasty and likely could have pulled at least a 5.3-5.5 with it. BUT, sometimes you get to like a picture and seeing it get hammered (it had two 1s, a 2 and a 3 in the first 16 votes) is like watching a child get beat up. You just want to pull them out of there. Well, live and learn.

Not your most engaging image, but I agree: probably a 5.5. I think voters may have seen it as a normal capture with a stock photoshop filter, rather than an original in-camera creation.

I probably would have given this a 5. I find the circles distracting. The colors, light, reflection and composition are pleasing. I agree it's hard watching the voters kick a shot you like, but unfortunately I'm getting used to that.

I would have placed this low, not because of its fitness for the challenge but because I have a strong dislike for images that make me dizzy. Most images using zoom effect have this effect on me as well. Besides, there's someone at my local camera club that over-uses a similar technique...we've all got our pet peeves. :)

Ah! Pretty cool. I'll have to file that trick away for future use. :)

This is a very cool effect. Great choice of subject for the shot and the results are really appealing.

This is a pretty cool effect, Doc. Did you put gel/Vaseline on a filter in this pattern, or did you achieve this by twirling your camera on a tripod in a long exposure? Very interesting.
