 I am not sure if I have this Shallow D O F right but This was growing in my pot plant by my front door It is only very small about 1/2 an inch I Thought it looked so dainty and like a little parasol
I cropped it sharpened it and cloned out an annoying yellow piece in the soil
Added the border taking the colour from the fungi and downsized sharpened slightly again and submitted.
It only lasted a day no trace remains so I guess I got lucky even if it doesnt do well. I like it.

Hi greetings from the CC, well you did a fabulous job on the mushroom in this shot!! Voters did not seem to mind that that DOF was minimal in the background. The DOF is certainly well contrasted with the extreme sharpness of this well composed mushroom. Just because your comment suggests uncertainty about DOF, it is achieved by aperatures being low numbers i.e. 4.5 will give you a very shallow DOF and 22 will give you more focus both in fore and backgrounds. Manual focussing I find helps to highlight the subject of your choice in focus. Hope that helps, you seemed to 'get it' without needing the tech explanation on your own...keep up the good work... oh and the lighting in this shot is very good, excellent detail!

This shroom looks like it is doing a dance! Nice use of contrast and DOF to set it apart from its surroundings.
