Getting a good silhouette is not as easy as it looks. It's good to keep the subject down to a minimum of lines or a simple outline that looks like a black cut-out laid on a brighter background. I got hammered on my first challenge entry as well, so don't let it get to you.
I think that you can adjust the Rebel settings to increase contrast if you go thru the manual and look for it. |

Not quite silhouettes, I'd like to see more of the Dim Sum (as your title implies), and the white balance seems a bit cold. |

Sorry, this just looks like a snapshot to me. The blown out highlights in the window are drawing my eye away from the subject. |
