i decided to carve a hole going through the apple on both sides. i then put cotton sticking out from the sides, trying to make the best "explosion" effect. I pointed a mini flashlight directly at the bottom cotton to try to make it brighter. most of the light from the right side was really bright window light. the bullet was hanging from a dark blue sewing thread (somewhat visible in the color version). the bullet was actually 3 inches behind the apple. I had to lean the string against the backdrop, otherwise the string would appear in the picture due to the light's reflection. i tried to wiggle the string a little so that i could get a blurry effect from the bullet.

pp- i converted to black and white, burned a little, and dodged around the cotton. cloned out a little blemish on the apple, and added contrast. that's basically about it. very last minute! if i thought about it earlier i would have done it much better, but oh well, that's what i get for procrastinating!

Is that painting with light to create the burst through? The exit part looks more convincing than the entrance but still very well executed and clever.

Really? I wouldn't have guessed it was a bullet without the title, so it would have been better if that was clear. Sharpness is also a problem. Composition could have been better, and that table is very distracting. I would suggest a different crop, and a rotate to correct that slight tilt.
