My first model shoot! The room was lit with just a couple of lamps, and I was lucky I had my fast lens that day. Jill was very patient with me as a n00b photographer; I pretty much followed her lead and moved myself around to try to keep the angle of light interesting. The shallow DOF and high ISO make the shot appear soft and grainy, which might not go over so well with DPC voters.

In Aperture, I adjusted the exposure and applied its noise reduction. The lens itself on the 5D has a vignette, which I enhanced in Photoshop with a gradient layer set to mulitply.

I couldn't figure out a good way to handle the shadow on her left eye, and I still have the problem where my "save for web" shots look very washed out compared to the PSD.

I hope she enjoyed this, I think it came out very well, an intimate portrait with the low light. :)

The framing is great - nice echo of the arch of the sofa back with the arch of her body, and the placement of objects give the setting some depth. I think the depth of field you chose is excellent. The shadows and lighting look natural too me, and just what I would expect to see - if you had more "professional" portrait lighting, it would look too much set-up and the viewer would lose the sense of being there, IMO.

Lighting is wonderful, I don't find the right eye a distraction at all. Wonderful framing and surprised it didn't score higher.

I loooove this lighting and the shallow dof. colors are great, too.

I really like the DOF here but not so much the lighting - it feels a little flat with harsh shadows.

Nice shot of the model and nice lighting but the background is jsut too cluttered, and she doesn't benefit from having a lamp coming out of her head :- )

I think what I like most is this seems very natural and not forced at all. I think the lighting could have bee a bit softer but otherwise this is quite good.

i like the lighting. imo the composition could be different and the lamp right behind her head is a little distracting.

dof and colors are nice. the model could've been retouched a little under the eyes, and her left eye is a little too dark.

Nice lighting and DOF. May have benefitted from a tighter crop I think. 6

I like the lighting. The pillow in the front left is a little distracting, but well done image overall. Good luck.
