Dave, I got this image as a CC image, but I think I have already commented on it with my original thoughts. I don't think there is much that I can really add.

Reading your comments, I think it would possibly have been better serving to you if you had worked with a subject/setting that allowed you to create your shallow depth of field more with the camera.

Shallow depth of field here is ok. The image doesn't seem to strike me in any particular way. There is a lot of color here that seems to clash. The background is strong... possibly overpowering your subject(s). It may also be useful to upset the 'balance' somehow... After continuing to look, the film canisters in this image don't serve much of any purpose other than to show shallow depth of field? You may find it useful to incorporate subject strength with the challeng topic :)
