Was back in boone to visit and decided to do a photo shoot with the lovely julie, a good friend of mine as well as a small running theme in my portfolio. I was trying to think of something cool for the soft focus challenge and a window light portrait came to mind. I then thought of the idea of having her sad next to it and so came the crying shot. It was quite dark where I was so I'm lucky to have this sharp. The reflection ended up being even more than I orginally anticipated. I used a reflector directly off subject to the left to fill in where the window could not. We put a little mascara in a water bottle and a tad bit of water, shook it up, and dripped it from the side of her eye to create the tear. Editing, lots of cloning out small imperfections, a little burning to accentuate the tears, dodging the eyes, sharpen and a probably a bunch of other stuff I now forgot about. I didn't like it for soft focus, I am really pleased in general.

Love the idea of the photo. wish the girls make-up wasn't so over done. it takes from the shot. otherwise, I like it alot.

The strangeness of this photo sneaks up on you. I keep wondering if there were other things you could have done to make the reflection seem a little out of wack. Still, much enjoyed.

I like the use of the mirror here a lot and the makeup. I'm not so sure about the b/w conversion, though.

avg vote, the makeup and lighting gives the sense of broken heart but her eyes looking up sort of deters from that... would have liked to see her eyes looking down towards the rose.

A good emotive image. Nice reflection. I like the shape made by the negative space along the neck. The use of black & white also works well.

Nice concept and good acting from the model - the image does lack a bit of sharpness though and I think the rose might be a bit too clichéd for some.
