I had wanted to do something semi nude for a previous challenge with my new lights but they weren't in yet but I still had an awesome willing model, so I got the idea of having a half lit nude almost immediately for this challenge. However I didn't have the idea for the lightbulb until right before the shoot. I thought it would make the picture less cliche. The lightbult was hung from the cieling with black thread and when I converted it to black and white I brightened the bulb a bit and it looked like it was lit even though there wasn't a halo or whatever around it. What is funny is now that i look at it it really looks like it is glowing when it is still surrounded by the true black from the original image. I didn't make the bulb completely white, i left in some of the gray so that it wouldn't be deleting pixels or whatever. This was all lit from the left with a softbox in a completely black room (rehearsal hall in my school)

I am still having to use my boyfriend's rebel xt for my studio stuff because my hot flash adapter for my sony hasn't come in yet.

wow! I can't believe it, I had hoped so badly that this would ribbon but I thought I had no chance with a 6.8 but I guess I did, Thanks everyone!

I thought that her expression in this one was an interesting mixture between sadness and fear and it really made the picture for me.

Congrats on the ribbon kiddo, many more to come if I am not mistaken! Like the shot, not just cause there is a nude babe in there but it´s well lit and thought out. Think you should have dodged the heck out of that bulb though, similar to what Joey did in this shot but it´s a good shot and you deserved that ribbon.

Simple, beautiful & effective. I think the challenge was well presented. If I could change anything about this capture, I would not have included the light bulb in the top left corner. This would have made the photograph half black space, half subject, therefore accentuating the half concept on two levels. Just a thought, not a criticism. Well done.

The light bulb makes the photo. Well the model too, but the bulb really adds to the balance and originality of the shot. Good tones too. well done.

I like this one, I gave an 8, but I wish I couldnt see the rug. Thats my personal opinion. The shadows and lighting are great. :)
