The coloration and processing used here aimed to mimic a textured 3d illustration in a vintage children's book - the kind that you tilt and the figures move slightly. I'm not troubled by negative comments per se but to those who won't try to deliver them with any balance or tact, may karmic boomerangs fwap you all.

To clarify: I didn't say anything about fwaps for scores, just for stinkheaded comments.

Well.....I should probably be fwapped! I gave this a three as I didn't get the 3-D thing as it just seemed OOF and/or "funny" processing to me. It also IMO missed the mark for portrait. Please don't hate me, I'm just trying to be honest with my obligatory comment.

I was very interested by your comments about the pp trying to mimic the 3-D children's books. I work on a laptop, and when I tilt the screen back (typically darkens the screen) the people and ball actually do seem to come right out of the picture. They brighten while the background darkens.

I haven't read the rest of the comments here, but I suspect your score was hurt by DNMC votes, since it is very atypical for a portrait. I think the image is very lively and a good shot.

Cool moment and a I like the post processing you did. A very fun feel to this one. Hard choice for the challenge though, but I do the same. :)

I gave this a 7. Apparently I don't know squat.

Photo is out of focus or it has been over sharpened, but something is off. There also appears to be a halo aound each person???

Looks a bit plasticky (especially in the trees), and there's an odd black halo around the girl's head. If the image is going to be blurred, it would've been nice if the ball had a motion blur and looked like it was moving toward the man.

a little over processed for my taste

snapshot and candid.. not a portrait. sorry but doesnt really fit the challenge.. have a readup on the definition of `portrait`.

Nice colors and sharpness, but it strikes me as a snapshot.

This image seems overly processed and not at all natural looking.

Sorry, not a very good one. Even with traces of oversharpening, it is still not sharp. Furthermore, I would rather call this an action shot than a portrait. (4)

Love the expression of the young lad on the left who has clearly seen the ball coming :- )

The filter adds a bit of interest to this shot.

Ha, I love the expression on the boy on the left, like he's saying "Um, Dad? There's a ball coming right at you".

Photo looks a bit fuzzy and not quite in focus, did you use a long zoom for this?

Nice, but oversharpened.
