 I've wanted to create a version of kosmikkreeper's Tear Drop Blues for quite a while now, and the ol' macro challenge seemed like a good time to do it!

My wife is the model. Just like in the original, she held her head against the wall to help prevent movement. I set up the camera and lights, dropped a drop of water on her eyelashes, and started shooting. Lots of overhead lights on, main light from an Alien Bee 400 with shoot-through umbrella to the right.

Shot in RAW: adjusted white balance

PS:
Rotate
Crop
Channel Mixer (for B/W conversion)
Photo Filter (Cooling Filter 80, 61% density)
Curves
Brightness/Contrast
Acidify Action (crazy curves, muted colors)
Hue/Sat (to shift a bit more towards blue)
Lots of dodge/burn
Some selective saturation (sponge tool)
A bit of cloning here and there

Wow! My first ribbon! Thank you all so much for the votes and comments. I am really amazed. I've loved kosmikkreeper's shot for a long time and just wanted to honor the idea. I'm glad you guys liked my take on it!

Right on! I'm so excited that you got a ribbon! Obviously I am biased, but I do love this shot. I look at it and can't believe it's a picture of me (in an unrecognizable sort of way). Many congratulations! One day I'll get a shiny ribbon of my own, you just wait... :o)

This is well executed. Even better than the original in that respect. Can't really say I find anything else appealling about it though since it's just an exercise in copying. I wish you had put your own spin on it since this isn't a deju/tribute challenge. Just my opinion though. Good luck.

What type of lighting did you use for this picture? I love the effect of this picture. Your subject has wonderful eyelashes as well.

The detail is good but I find the blue a bit hard to digest, particularly on the skin. A warmer hue would have worked better.
