Absolute craziness to have gotten such a colourful and unique macro shot out of such a bland, neutral coloured stem, and a spritzer bottle. THAT is vision, my friend!
Your girls are lovely, and if you have even one of them who love to pose for you, you have a goldmine. I am not talking about financially, either. I always took lots of pics of Lauren as a baby all the way up to when she turned the camera on herself at about age fifteen. My older children were not patient enough with me, but Lauren would sit for hours. I think that living rurally forced her to find a hobby to entertain herself, and once the camera was hers, the rest was gravy. She became very proficient with it, learned every aspect of it, and I am incredibly proud of the photographer she has become. In fact, when I grow up, I want to be just like her.
Do you have a photographic mentor? I was exceptionally fortunate when I was a very young child to have had an elderly neighbour who used to use me as a model for his photographic experimentation and then would take me into the darkroom where I could watch the magic of watching B&W prints magically appear. It makes me sad to think that with the way the world has changed, we would no sooner let our young daughters in a darkroom with an older man than tell them to jump off a cliff.
Tonight I have spent some time looking at some of the photographs I have submitted to deviantart over the past few years, and have been continuously critiquing my own things. 'Needs more contrast, border is all wrong, where was my focus...' that kind of thing. LOL Interesting re-reading people's generous comments and actually wondering why there were not more critiques! Has been fun seeing some of the things I did specifically for deviantart, and have never actually printed for myself. I have saved a few to a folder to do that possibly this evening.
I appreciate your letters, they reinforce my love of the art, and it is nice to speak to someone with the passion I once had. Hoping to rekindle some of that, and perhaps look in different directions for continued inspiration.
Let me know how you do in the standings. Seriously. ~ Victoria |
