Your light is a bit too harsh here. I would have liked to see the flower at a different angle -- the curled up petals in the foreground are a bit distracting. You background is a bit spotty and does not look white on my monitor, maybe a colored background would have helped this a bit. I would have liked the flower to be surrounded by the pencils (it looks like it is placed behind them) for the "vase" effect. Interesting idea, though.

I like the colors in your image. The "vase" is a good balance to the strong, bright colors of the flower. I like the shadows too. the word "whimsical" comes to mind. It's fun to look at.

That shadows ruins the whole shot for me!! Its a nice idea, maybe a smaller aperture wouldn't have given such a shallow dof
