 Self portrait as the only other subjects available were either my black cat or my toddler and... well you know. :-) Light from the widow and a little table light to the left was used for lighting, self timer on camera set in TV mode with a 5 sec. exposure. Left the shot much darker than I normally would just due the theme of the challenge, hope it's not too dark.

Post processing: Adjusted levels and curves as the picture started out quite dark and added a guassian blur in a duplicate layer at about 35% opacity. Slight crop and resized.

Soft, calm, solid contrast that doesn't stand out more than the other. I like this shot.

Nice, you've captured a distinct mood here. I would have tried framing it to the left somewhat, showing more of the curtains (or cropping off some of the right), even though this is a 'black' challenge. :)

A good study with contrast between the halves of the shot. Just the right amount of light on the face.
