had fun getting this image - left my camera on over night and only had enough juice left for one image!

converted in lightroom with lots of moving of sliders for w/b and twideling of settings got this, wish it was advanced editing, would have removed some of the stuff round the edge and done some dodge / burn because the light was a little harsh on the top of the tree.

Hello from the Critique Club,

This image definitely fits the challenge, as any tree that requires a "cane" to hold its limb up must be old. However, there are two major issues that hurt your score on this. First, the tree blends into the background way too much. It is possible that shooting at a different time of day (different lighting) could have helped provide more separation between the tree and the background. Second, I understand that you only had one shot left on your battery but this image is of a tree from a straight on perspective. Without a unique perspective, it shouts snapshot to the voters. Since nothing about this shot conveys Robin Hood besides your title, you need to find someway for this tree to tell a story on its own. It is entirely possible that there may not be a story to tell.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions regarding this critique.

Tim

It's so old it has to be propped, huh? Great-looking tree with lots of character; the shot could use more contrast and maybe a shallower DOF to focus my eye better on the tree itself. Backing up a bit or getting closer to the ground would be cool, too.

Too bad there are all those posts around the tree, they really take away from the picture, but there isn't much you could have done about that. I wish there was some contrast in color here, everything seems to be the same color.

Looks a little flat. Deeper colors and more contrast may help.

Cool tree, the colors seem off to me though..lacking vibrance.
