I'm back to comment. Nice DOF and lighting, but only a small part of the center is in focus. You could have showed better texture by getting closer and using a real Sunflower :)

For the purposes of this challenge, it would have been better to get closer up on the inside part of the flower. But I do like this shot a lot. It has interesting lighting, unique angle, and I like the muted colors.

This shot appears to be underexposed and out of focus. The composition might work if these other two elements were in place. Nice color scheme!

Not much sense of the feel of this thing - other than the fraying about the edges of those leaves. Depth of field is simply not great enough, to actually show any detail in most areas, and you seem to have cropped out the area of foreground leaves where the light might show the most texture.

With such a shallow dof, I find it hard to feel any of the texture I know is there.

The macro idea is good, but the DOF of the shot doesn't let me "feel" the texture.

I would have used more depth of field. The texture in the front is interesting, but runs out too soon.
