levels, cloned girl's left eye a little to brighten, multiplied the image onto itself twice, at 61%.

Added an overlay at 100%. Brightened the overlay & blurred it a little.

Here's the original:

and here's the texture used:

I don't know about the technique on this picture - it doesn't look the way I hoped it would!

This is a very subtle overlay which enhances the image and theres nothing wrong with that ;)

The effect of the overlay is very subtle in terms of adding texture, but the deepened tones in the edited version really do enhance the image. A nicely captured, spontaneous moment.

yes comparing the original with the one you put the texture in there's a subtle difference ... the textured one looks more gungy .. they look like a very happy pair !! :)

ah...I appreciate the update on the comments - glad I came back. I struggled to see the texture too. I see enhancement in the back ground. It's a great shot for starters...now you have the whole month to dive in! Go for it!

Thanks for your comments KaDi! I've never used overlays before, so I was probably being timid about this. I was thinking about the possiblity of getting a "dappled sunlight" effect at first, but then when that didn't seem to be working I just went for the "interesting background." I'm inspired the images in this thread & intend to step up the textures tomorrow!

Lovely double portrait!

The overlay is very subtle. It does seem to enhance the background making it more lively. I notice where the original is white (or very light) the overlay won't have an effect. Could you post your texture, too, so we can see what you were working with?
