Decaying lighthouse and reef at Loggerhead Key, Dry Tortugas National Park. It's in the Gulf of Mexico, west of the Florida Keys. 25 Cuban refugees landed on the little island the night before we arrived, and they were walking up the beach right after I took this shot. The island is manned by two park service employees who look after the lighthouse. The little house just right of the lighthouse was built around 1850, and is still in service as the employee's quarters. All of their electricty comes from a solar array, but they do have a generator backup, as the lighthouse is still functional, but too deteriorated to allow the public to go up the inside to the top.
Zoom @ 18mm, Polarizer.

I think it does, but I don't have any problem with such a wonderful photo. Perhaps the lighthouse shouldn't be placed in the centre.

your annual sailing trip sounds like a really fun thing to do. this is a beautiful picture! I love the clarity of the water - looks like a wonderful place to visit. I like the lighthouse as the anchor point in the background.

Great blues and greens in the water. Good example of utility of polarizer filter. Horizon seems just a bit curved, probably related to 18 mm focal distance used -- easy to correct this in PS.

Sorry I did not comment earlier -- I was too busy defending the honor of the archive posters!

Hey, Waddy, glad to see you're joining us for the water challenge. Great shot of the...what do you call the sea around a key?...A bay? Anyway, very intense colors, and you gotta love the clarity of that water.
